FBC Mobile, Minister of Engagement 

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF MOBILE Position open 3/20/2023

Position: MINISTER OF ENGAGEMENT

Details: Full Time position. 40 hours per week. Schedule to be self-determined and weekend availability is required when necessary. Compensation is dependent upon experience and education. Candidate will be required to complete and pass a background check.

Position will be reviewed at two weeks, three months, six months and one year to determine feasibility for continuation. Either party may discontinue this relationship without repercussion during the one-year provisional period. Positive growth and expansion at the end of one year may lead to permanence.

Reports to: Pastor and/or Administrative Coordinator.

Overview: First Baptist Church of Mobile is a diverse, dynamic group of believers with a mission of extending God’s grace and love to all people. Located in downtown Mobile, Alabama, we seek to find an outgoing, enthusiastic, passionate, proactive person to join our staff as “Minister of Engagement”.

This is a new position which covers a wide scope of areas and skills. It requires creativity and “thinking outside the box” to increase presence in the community and interaction within the church family. One primary, intended purpose of this position is to lead the congregation of First Baptist in efforts resulting in growth, including spiritual and numerical.

It is expected that this individual will fully support the collective identity of First Baptist, including the church’s identity as a Christian congregation and our unique Baptist identity. They will work in tandem with staff members, committees, teams, the congregation and area residents to nurture a spirit of community and growth. This individual is expected to be a team player with timely follow-through.

Some of the expectations are listed below, but on-going dialogue may further define duties or open more opportunities of service.

Engagement of Church Family

Interact with current members (all age divisions) to build relationships and learn of existing ideas, talents, needs and resources which can enhance current and future programs. Coordinate volunteers to assist with all aspects of the church, as needed.

Engagement of Social Media

Work with current FBC volunteers to regularly update FBC Facebook page, website, Instagram, YouTube, etc. with content of interest to community and members. Seek ways to further expand FBC presence on social media and through other means.

 Engagement of Community

Network with community organizations, leaders and area residents to discover ways for First Baptist to have more interaction and relevance. Offer ideas for enrichment programs, events, group meetings, activities, classes, etc. to be hosted at FBC for all that are interested. Programs may include, but are not limited to educational, informational, spiritual, musical, etc., and which may be single-event, short-term, or on-going.

Proactively communicate FBC calendar events to the community. Invite groups and individuals from the community to help with startups, attend events, etc.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or experience equivalent. Some seminary or theological training is preferred.

Skills

Organization, oral and written communication, computer/social media and marketing, logistics/details/planning, facilitation of planned events.

Experience

Some work with young adult or youth groups and/or leadership roles as an organizer or activity coordinator. Planning and executing programs for small to large groups. Ministering to, counseling and mentoring individuals in a Christian environment.

Responsibilities are expected to grow as programs and individuals are successfully added to day-to-day activities. Duties may be expanded as needs increase.
